General Forum Rules Empty General Forum Rules

Post by darkwulfv Wed Jul 23, 2008 8:19 pm

Recently, the site has started growing more. More users are posting. And at the same time, things are starting to get a little out of hand.

Rule #1: Stay on Topic
-This rule is probably the most broken rule to date. STAY ON TOPIC! Do not post irrelevant crap in your posts that can send a thread off-track. I'm growing tired of all the off-topicness. The only place "off-topicness" is allowed is in The Craphole and the Forum Games section. (But the forum games should not be sent off-topic either) If your post has nothing to do with the topic at hand, DON'T POST!

Rule #2: Spam
-Allow me to define spam.
Spam is either the annoying repeat of a word, phrase, etc. (such as repeating WALEDANCE 150 times). Spam is also seriously off-topic posts, or posts with no relevent point.

A post with less than 5 words is NOT spam, if it is relevant. If you can sum up your feelings in 3 words, fine. I don't want "lolwut" as posts. Okay? But if you can say something as simply as "That's a good idea." That isn't spam.
Also, keep emoticons to a minimum (the smileys). They tend to slow down the forum when used too much.
This is an english only forum. Speaking in any other language repeatedly and without purpose will get your posts deleted.
Using "(adding this brackets to make this post not spam)" is 10x as bad as just "good idea".

Rule #3: Respect 2
-This ain't kindergarten, so I don't expect you to love everyone. But if you hate someone, either deal with it in the Craphole section, or shut the fuck up. Direct or indirect flaming will NOT be tolerated. This includes harassment and direct attacks. That means no bashing for someone's gender, religion, beliefs, etc.

Rule #4: Posting Rules
-This breaks down into Double Posting and Writing.
Double Posting is when you post at least 2 posts in a row. Please, don't do this. Edit your posts! Double posting is okay once in a while, such as for bumping a thread or making an update to something. Double Posting is not a serious infraction but limit it please.
Writing is... writing. But it's how you do it that makes this a rule. Please do your best to use coherent english. The less internet abbreviations you use (u, r, ur, y, etc.) the better. It makes you look like you're 6 when you use those. Absolutely NO ALLCAP posts. I will be editing your post if I find these, and I would like them reported if you find one.

Rule #5: Swearing
-We aren't kids. Swearing, I don't mind. Hell, I do it all the fucking time. (See?) But in moderation, and not directed at people (usually). I don't mind swearing. But if you start using it in every post or every single sentence, I'll get annoyed. Also, if you start using it at people ("Fuck you, bitch") ("You fucking suck") ("Shitbag"), etc., I'll be warning you and either deleting or editing your post. I would also like users to report posts like these so I can look at them.
I will not be tolerating the N word (you know what word I'm talking about).

Rule #6: Thread Rules
-Don't repeat threads. Don't make a random thread about random crap for no reason (except in Spam-A-Thon). This also includes polls; Make your polls make sense. Thread titles should indicate what your thread is about, and please no ALLCAPS or inflammatory (angering) titles.

Rule #7: Respect the Power
-Respect the admins, moderators, and section moderators. Their word is law, and you're not to argue that. If you have a qualm with an action one has taken, bring it up with me and I'll look into it. Do not argue/flame/attack moderators, be it global, art, or project teams.
If you would like to become a moderator for a section, a global moderator, or would like to advance from moderator to admin, please contact me. And remember; think of it like a job application. (So don't be stupid!)

Rule #8: PM's
-PM's stand for Private Messages. This is a good way to contact people 1 on 1. However, PM's are the exact same as this forum. All the rules apply (except a few, but you get the point). If anyone sends you a PM you deem inappropriate, forward me the PM and then send me one explaining the situation. (So I should get 2 PM's from you.) When "reporting" a PM, please make sure you send me your explanation first, and then the message you're reporting.

Rule #9: Sigs and Avi's 1
-That's short for "Signatures and Avatars". Your signature and your avatar are what make your user unique. It makes you recognizable on the forums. I personally request that all users pick up an avatar. Signatures are 100% optional.
I do have rules regarding the S and A. Obviously, no porn/inflammatory/attack images or phrases. Keep the signatures small please. If it looks too big, it probably is. And don't crowd your signature with gaudy images that hurt people's eyes. Avatars should not have sexual images. They can be sexually referencing, but no direct sexual images.

Rule #10: Links
-Links are the things you click. How hard, I know. I would prefer if you didn't trick-link. This means claiming to link to site A, and instead getting site B. (Think of Rick Rolling). I will not tolerate ANY shock links. (Links to insanely disgusting/inflammatory content) If I find one, you will be banned for a day or two, and increasingly more for each one. Rick Rolls are okay.. but if you keep doing it, I'll start deleting your posts. Remember, the "Report Post" button is very useful!

Rule #11: Chatbox
-The chatbox is a great way to talk in real-time to members of the forum. However, I ask that you do not spam or flood the chatbox. I CAN ban you from it. Please follow the same rules in the Chatbox that you would in the forum.

If anyone thinks I should add another rule, simply post an outline of that rule and I'll add it in. Please adhere to these rules... I don't want to have to be a jackass.
