Post by Goldendercon Mon Apr 27, 2009 5:01 am

ok, so I ended up drawing another dragon out of boredom... It's a little shabby... I just wanted some honest criticism, and I know that most of it will come from dark. Sorry for the big white space, it was reserved for future dragons. Thanks in advance
Well, let me present to you the four tribal leaders of my story...

Erithe, Mistress of the Agile Talon
Spoiler:

Malkuthe, Lord of the Highwind

Spoiler:

Jade, Mistress of the Brightscales
Spoiler:

Saffyre, Mistress of the Swift Tail
Spoiler:

Ok, so the following is a banner of my Wiki, where you can find information on this specific species. The information is under Characters>The Ceree Dragons. If you want, you can browse the site, but it's still under construction so don't hope to find that much...

I like the name. Laethe feels good. She (the dragon) is pretty (sorry if its a guy it looks like a girl, and the name makes it sound like a girl). If anything the frills at the back of her neck (see below) are a little to much. I can't wait to see her body. Is she going to be Western style, or Eastern style?

Good concept, but a bit monotone. Needs some more variations of blue.
As fewmets said, the head frills should be reduced slightly.

Damn I wish I could draw this well.

Wow, even for a head, you've got talent.
The appearance gives off a good feminine look.

I've got no criticism to give.

Thanks Guys, and as for the body, It will be in the western style. However, I still have to fix the wings, and then the anatomy. I'll post when it's done.

@Dark: I'll get to it pronto, hehe, I'm new to the world of cel-shading you know... XD

@Fewmets: Sure, I'll crop it a bit... and yes, indeed, she is female. This is the first time I've tried to draw a female western...

@Mooo: Thanks, I appreciate that.

Well, is this dragon going to be a more reptile-ish kind? With the scales and such. Or will it be more bird-like with feathers.

Most Western Dragons are drawn with scales as opposed to feathers. feathers are also hard to get good with cel-shading

Indeed, the feathers will be difficult, but, there really is no need to put scales on it when it is drawn in such a style... The wings, as I have planned will be a break from the traditional style, not feathers, and not bat-like wings.

EDIT!! here's another dragon:

You should add a couple patches of scales, to hint towards its texture, but indeed having the entire body wrapped in scales would look weird... and be hard.

That is exactly why I choose to draw unrealistic dragons as opposed to the realistic ones, because realistic is way harder...

Now I'm starting to doubt your age after seeing your drawings. This is the first time I've ever seen a 13 year old show this much skill. (or ARE you 13?)

I think my favorite would be the 2nd dragon, the Lord of the Highwind.

you do these on the computer right? do you use one of those pen tablets? Trying to do decent art with a mouse is nigh impossible I find.

Lots of online artists scan a sketch they did, use the pen tool on Photoshop, do some colouring and finishing, and get a picture.

Yeah, using a mouse to create art is hard.

Thanks!

I lost my tablet's ballpen a while back and found it just this morning.

I am DEFINITELY 13 years old.

All four of those were done with a mouse...

It's simple really... I just zoom in to 1200%...

and yeah, that is exactly how I do it mooo.

Tablet must be far less time-consuming though.

Those are all really nice, although I've noticed that they all look somewhat similar (not including color), but I suppose since that's your style (and the species of dragon(s)?), it's not a major deal.

Great job.

I agree, tablets are far less time consuming. However, I haven't quite mastered lineart with a tablet yet. So, I still use the mouse to make my lineart.

They look similar because they're of the same species. A creation of my own, the Ceree(Pron. Se-rey).

@Mooo: You like Malkuthe? Well, that's my persona or should I say "Scalesona" lol hahaha...

no, I made each from scratch, although I am working on my style of drawing them...

I'll be redrawing each one of those when I perfect my style... consider those as rough drafts...

what program do you use gold. now im curious. i use corel painter 10 (new name for Paintshop Pro). Also please Please tell me that your "mouse" is a rollerball mouse (with the red ball on top), otherwise I'll feel inadaquate.

I use photoshop CS3... But I guess corel could work too... if and when I get it I do not know as of now. Okay, I'll tell you that my "Mouse" is a rollerball mouse. While in fact it is an optical one...

Remember: The Pen tool(or equivalent in corel) is your friend Smile also, I might sound like an idiot for saying this... practice makes perfect. Oh and magnifying the image a whole lot works too...

I always magnify but I can never seem to get a good picture. I draw good with a tablet but I sucks with either a mouse or good old paper and pencil.
